Guest Activities

Regularly at Tonglen Lake, you will have the opportunity to sit by the campfire and relax in the swings with owner, Donna Gates, as she shares her stories of her nealy 40 years of life in Alaska. Guests will also have opportunities to take a yoga class, enjoy one of the many musical performances, art exhibits, workshops, classes or presentations that are scheduled weekly. 

In addition, there are naturalist/photography evening classes that offer you the opportunity to learn about the area and how to best use your camera to provide vivid memories of your time in Alaska. Roast s’mores over the campfire, soak in the evening sun while dining on the Artisan Café patio or simply sit and read a book. Savor the beauty and peace of Tonglen Lake.

The Artisan Café Evening Service includes a wonderful selection of wine and Alaskan Beer along with complimentary appetizers and desserts. The cafe patio is the perfact place to enjoy the evening sun and mountain views.

Tonglen Walks

Join a naturalist on local trils on Mondays and Thursdays. Our Naturalist Guide will meet you in the Artisan Cafe at 6:50 pm.  The one-hour guided walk with leave precisely at 7:00 pm. Learn about the floral and fauna, geology and history of the area while taking in the views of the surrounding taiga forest, mountains and beauty of Alaska. The walk is approximately 1.5 miles and moderate activity level.

Yoga Class

Upon your arrival at Tonglen Lake, be sure to check our Yoga Class schedule and location. Classes are held in the classroom, in the main lodge or outside on the stage. Breathe in deeply the clean mountain air and let your soul relax.
